Michael Levin oversees all aspects of Spoke and serves as primary contact for all the firm’s investment opportunities. He has held senior roles in real estate and investment banking for more than 25 years.

Jeff Morris

Jeff Morris is intimately involved in the investment decisions at Spoke and serves on the Investment Committee. Additionally, Jeff assists with site and operator evaluation for all Spoke opportunities.

Jim Baich

Jim Baich serves on the Investment Committee and works closely with Spoke on selecting operators and site evaluations. Jim uses his extensive real estate investment experience to help Spoke craft an investment thesis that mitigates risk and preserves investor capital.

Justin McCarthy joined Spoke Real Estate Capital in 2020 and is responsible for assisting in the underwriting and execution of all Spoke investments.

Melissa Garland

Director of Operations

Melissa Garland joined Spoke Real Estate Capital in 2020. As Director of Operations, Ms. Garland is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the firm including the development of efficient and effective business processes.

A.J. Mangan

Senior Vice President

A.J. is responsible for sourcing, structuring, and consulting on debt and equity financing for all Spoke investments. In addition to his responsibilities at Spoke, A.J. is involved in the production role at Walker & Dunlop, having led the placement of over $1.5 billion in commercial real estate loans. 

Elijah Kim

Vice President

Elijah Kim rejoined Spoke Real Estate Capital in 2023 and is responsible for the underwriting and execution of Spoke investments.

Diana has more than thirty years of experience in accounting and commercial real estate. Diana began her career as an auditor with KPMG in San Francisco where she specialized in banking and commercial real estate.

Michael Levin

Michael Levin oversees all aspects of Spoke and serves as primary contact for the firm’s investment opportunities. He has held senior roles in real estate and investment banking for more than 25 years.

Prior to founding Spoke in 2016, he was a Partner at Core Real Estate Capital for almost 10 years and was responsible for analyzing, negotiating, structuring and executing transactions. Michael’s leadership played a key role in growing the firm and increasing assets under management.

In his career, Michael has executed over $1.5 billion of real estate transactions, including multifamily, medical office, hotels, student housing and retail. He has completed apartment transactions totaling over 12,000 units across the United States.

Prior to his experience in real estate, Michael worked as an investment banker in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at both Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns where he analyzed and structured transactions for Fortune 500 clients, as well as noted private equity firms.

Michael holds an MBA (Finance) from Duke University and a BSBA (Business Administration) from Boston University where he received the Capstone Award.

Jeff Morris

Jeff is intimately involved in the investment decisions at Spoke and serves on the Investment Committee. Additionally, Jeff assists with site and operator evaluation for all Spoke opportunities.

Jeff founded MSF Real Estate Capital, a diversified and well-respected mortgage banking firm, in 1984 and grew it until it was acquired by the #1 multifamily lender in the U.S., Walker and Dunlop.

Since 1984, Jeff has overseen the funding of approximately $12 billion in debt for commercial real estate assignments of which $7 billion was within the multifamily space.

Jeff was a founding member of a community bank in Columbus, Ohio and heads the loan committee. Additionally, Jeff is on the Board of Directors and investment committee of a large family office based out of Columbus and focuses on allocating funds into institutional grade real estate assets.

Jeff attended Marietta College and is involved in a number of industry associations.

Jim Baich

Jim serves on the Investment Committee and works closely with Spoke on selecting operators and site evaluations. Jim uses his extensive real estate investment experience to help Spoke craft an investment thesis that mitigates risk and preserves investor capital.

Jim is the owner of MAD Capital, a Columbus-based family office with extensive holdings in both real estate and operating businesses. MAD Capital holds General and Limited Partnership positions in over 40 different real estate investments across the U.S.

Prior to forming MAD Capital, Jim served as Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Drainage Systems and IGS Energy, both billion-dollar companies.
Jim served as Chairman of the Board of a Columbus-based family office and was on the Central Ohio U.S. Bank Board of Advisors.

Jim is a graduate of Marietta College with Dual Majors in Industrial Engineering and Finance.

Chad Kiner

Chad serves on the Investment Committee and works with Spoke on the evaluation of new investment opportunities. Chad plays a critical role in the evaluation of debt opportunities for each Spoke transaction and provides valuable insight into the best options available in the market.

Currently, Chad is a Senior Vice President at BWE having joined the group in 2024. With over 20 years of capital markets experience, Chad leads a team responsible for sourcing and structuring capital for commercial real estate assets nationwide, transacting over $8 billion in commercial origination business throughout his career.

Prior to joining BWE, Mr. Kiner was a Managing Director at Walker & Dunlop in Columbus, OH, where he co-led the Ohio Capital Markets practice, closing $1.2 billion in transactions annually. He joined Walker & Dunlop in 2020 through the MSF Real Estate Capital acquisition. At MSF, he served as Senior Vice President, specializing in real estate debt and equity placement, securing $250-500 million annually. Mr. Kiner began his career at MSF in 2010 as Assistant Vice President, supporting loan origination across multiple property sectors. He also managed 300 industrial properties at Exel, Inc., and played a key role in a $2.2 billion acquisition at Developers Diversified Realty. His career began at Collateral Mortgage Capital, focusing on financing industrial, office, retail, and multifamily properties.

Chad is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate. He has also earned a Master’s Degree in Real Estate at the University of Florida.

Justin McCarthy

Justin is responsible for assisting in the underwriting and execution of all Spoke investments. His responsibilities include detailed financial analyses of new investment opportunities, conducting market research and completing investment materials.

Justin is also responsible for over-seeing investor relations activities. Additionally, Justin assists in the firm’s asset management functions and completion of quarterly investor reports.

Throughout his career, Justin has worked on both development and acquisition projects totaling over $1 Billion. Justin has worked on projects across nearly every real estate asset class ranging from retail, office, student housing, hospitality and multifamily.

Justin is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Melissa Garland

director of operations

Melissa has been with Spoke since 2016 and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the firm.

Melissa plays a critical role in assisting investors through the investment cycle, managing the investor portal, and distributing investor communications. Melissa also works closely with Spoke Partners to track capital expenditures, monitor on-site leasing performance, and review property-level reporting and budgeting for each investment.

Prior to joining Spoke, Melissa had over 20 years of multifamily experience including assignments with Gables Residential, Casto Communities, and Edwards Communities. Melissa’s substantial background in on-site property operations allows her to provide unique insight into asset performance.

Melissa is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

A.J. Mangan

A.J. is responsible for sourcing, structuring, and consulting on debt and equity financing for all Spoke investments.

Currently a Senior Vice President at BWE, A.J. specializes in financing solutions for various property types across the Midwest and U.S., including multifamily, mixed-use, industrial, retail, self-storage, hospitality, and office.

Prior to joining BWE, A.J. was with MSF Real Estate Capital and Walker & Dunlop, where he helped structure and close equity and debt transactions totaling over $6 billion. He has worked with capital providers such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, life insurance companies, FHA, CMBS, debt funds, and commercial banks, advising clients on acquisitions, dispositions, investment analysis, and property valuations.

A.J. is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Real Estate.

Elijah Kim

Elijah was with Spoke from 2016-2019 and rejoined in 2023. He is responsible for assisting in the underwriting and execution of Spoke investments. His responsibilities include financial analyses of potential investment opportunities and creating investment materials.

Elijah is also responsible for assisting in the firm’s asset management functions and completion of quarterly investor reports. Additionally, Elijah assists with investor relations.

Throughout his career, Elijah has worked on over $1.8 billion of real estate acquisition and development projects across nearly every real estate asset class ranging from office, industrial, student housing, senior housing, hospitality, and multifamily. Prior to rejoining Spoke, Elijah worked for Nationwide, Fairfield Residential, Interwest Capital, and Lument.

Elijah is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.

Diana Thomas

Diana has more than thirty years of experience in accounting and commercial real estate. Diana began her career as an auditor with KPMG in San Francisco where she specialized in banking and commercial real estate. In 1991, Diana joined MSF Real Estate Capital as Controller. A few years after joining the Company she was promoted to Chief Financial Officer where she became responsible for all financial aspects of MSF Real Estate Capital and related entities and investments.

For over twenty-five years, she was responsible for overseeing the $1 billion mortgage loan portfolio in the MSF Servicing Department. Diana is a graduate of The Ohio State University with Bachelor of Science in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
